The National Wedding Show 2011 vs Love Illustrated

4 Oct

The National Wedding Show equals 60,000 people from all over the country congregating on Earls Court for a weekend of bridal overload – and then the whole shebang moves to Birmingham the week after. This year was no different, and we nipped into the show for a couple of hours on Sunday to see what was shaking down round London Town (I feel as if I should apologise for that last sentence….)!

The National Wedding Show is the biggest wedding exhibition in the UK, so expect to feel overwhelmed if you’ve not been to a wedding show before – there are around 300 stands to get through. Whether this is a plus or a minus depends on your stamina, but also what you are looking for from the show. Whilst there is undoubtedly a lot of great wedding vendors there, there are also a lot of not-so-relevant brands present – especially in the Gifts and Hair and Beauty categories. Expect a whole lot of information from national tourist boards hoping to tempt you to honeymoon or get hitched in their particular part of the world, too.

However, there is plenty to keep you bridezilla’d out – lots of wedding dress boutiques displaying both current ranges and discounted stock, and enough shoes and tiaras to shake a wedding wand at, plus all the usual list of necessary pretty – photographers, florists and cakes galore. This year National Wedding Show has the added bonus of seminars being held by both the Rock My Wedding team and the chaps behind Staggered – I didn’t manage to catch either, but it looked like both were doing a roaring trade.

There is undoubtedly a lot of energy about the National Wedding Show: the catwalk shows are always impeccably staged, and it’s a good place to pick up ideas for your own ceremony – especially the Designer Flower Zone, and the stands of some of the amazing wedding stylists. It is, however, undoubtedly a show for the mainstream bride, and it’s fair to say it lacks a certain refinement in a lot of areas. Do go expecting a fun day out and to get some great ideas, but don’t necessarily expect to find anything out of the ordinary – you’ll need one of the boutique wedding shows for that.

Love Illustrated as blogged by Cosmopolitan!

29 Sep

As if the glorious sunshine we’re currently enjoying here in the UK wasn’t enough to make us merry, today one of our designs has been blogged by the fabulous Cosmopolitan Magazine!

We drew this Save The Date for the gorgeous Suzy, Deputy Editor of Cosmopolitan, a few months ago, and she only went and blogged about it! She’s writing a weekly blog charting her weight loss up until her wedding date – it’s hilarious (and completely inspiring) and you can read all about it and see our write-up here.

The organisers of the show say “Following the phenomenal success of its debut show earlier this year, The Designer Vintage Bridal Show is back, bigger and better and packed full of home-grown bridal talent. Berrow Court in Birmingham plays host to the 2-day event where guests can wander through the house and gardens and choose from vintage inspired, designer pieces from bridal gowns to boudoir style underwear, from head to toe, from brand new to vintage originals, from fashion shows to afternoon tea and all nicely wrapped up with entertainment and a chance to meet and talk to the experts.”

As well seeing our fantastic stationery up close and personal (and getting the chance to win your Save The Dates – I’ll be posting about this soon!) there’ll be lots of vintage pretty on display from oodles of other fabulous wedding suppliers. There will also be the unique chance to hobnob with five of the wedding world’s most respected UK bloggers: Kat from Rock ‘n Roll Bride, Annabel from Love My Dress, Amma from Beyond Beyond, Alexis from OMG I’m Getting Married and Kelly from The Boho Wedding Blog, giving you the chance to pick the brains of these wedding gurus in person.

Inspiration Aisle: Paper Streamers

6 Sep

Cheap, easy to source and beautiful in both mouth-watering colours or ivories and whites. What’s not to love?

I’d recommend sticking to a strict colour palette – loving the citrus and royal blue:

Or just going for plain white and neutrals to add interest and texture ( (Yes, we’ve sneaked a couple of our own wedding photos in. Again.)

In the UK you can pick up streamers and paper garlands for a song in most colours. I sourced mine from from The Pub Shop, where 85ft of coloured streamers costs £1.10 and 4 metres of paper garlands costs £2.85. Go nuts, but don’t go crazy with colour, otherwise your venue might end up looking like a 5-year old’s birthday party.

On second thoughts, I could definitely cope with this!
