Sunday Best: Monique Lhuillier Swan Lake

24 Apr

Following Black Swan’s success at the flicks, there may well be a ballerina trend in wedding dresses coming to a church near you – check out recent shoots by Style Me Pretty and the UK’s own London Bride themed around this very subject.

Monique Lhuillier’s Swan Lake has been around since 2006, and is the epitome of prima ballerina style. It’s not really to my taste, but if you want to go full-on net and tulle, you might as well do it in style.

Source: Monique Lhuillier

Bear in mind before bidding that this dress needs repairing and dry-cleaning, and a couple of layers of tulle adding to restore it to its original state. The dress is sized to a 29 inch waist, and has an original retail price of $3700 (around £2250). It is currently listed for £500 with no bids, and the auction has 2 days left to run.

Sunday Best: John Galliano Silk Wedding Dress £500

17 Apr

Firstly, apologies for the lack of Sunday Best last week – I was sunning myself down in beautiful Cornwall, as we took a trip to relax and visit the Wed Magazine fair. We’re back on track today, however, with this gorgeous John Galliano gown. Drunken ramblings of an idiot aside, there’s no doubt he made some beautifully flattering clothes, and this is a prime example…..

Although the seller lists it as a size 6, the French size is 38 and this makes it a US6/UK10 by my calculations. It will need lining f you’re not keen on showing flesh through the cut-out detail, but check out the back!

Source: Ebay

Love it! It’s silk, a mermaid shape and I think it would look completely amazing on the right figure. The seller states it’s vintage, but it looks like a modern cut to me – you make up your own mind!

Listing finishes on April 20th and is currently at £500 with no bids.

Sunday Best: Ritva Westenius Rio dress £300

27 Mar

Seeing some of Ritva Westenius’s design on the catwalk at the Designer Wedding Show made me rethink a designer I’d previously overlooked. She had some amazing twists on classic wedding dress silhouettes, not in an overblown way, but clever enough to set her apart from the other a-line dresses and ball gown shapes.

Her dresses are mid-range in price, and typically cost from £1500-£2500. The dress we’ve found for you today is Rio. a duchess satin fishtail gown, with beaded french corded lace at the neckline and hem. It has an original RRP of £2140, but is listed here for £250 with no bids, and a buy it now figure of £300.

It is size UK10-12, and the listing ends tomorrow.

Sunday Best: Peter Langner Sicilia wedding dress £600

20 Mar

Peter Langner designs classical wedding gowns with a modern twist, and always in gorgeous fabrics. Stocked at Browns Brides and Kleinfeld, his dresses are most definitely high-end, with price tags ranging between 3000 and £6000, and they just don’t turn up on Ebay that often.

We’ve managed to find one for you this week, however – Sicilia, a empire line gown from his 2009 collection which features architectural pleating at the bust and fan-tail pleats on the train. I can’t find any information on this gown’s original price, but I suspect we’re talking somewhere in the region of £3000-4000.

This gown is a size 14, has a starting price of £600 and has no bids with 2 days left to run.

Sunday Best: Diane Von Furstenberg Antoinette Sequinned Gown

13 Mar

I absolutely lusted after this dress when it first came out in 2009 – it oozes glamour, and is a high-drama, non-wedding wedding dress – my favourite kind! Plus the wrap-style dress, although unconventional for a wedding, is universally flattering. I’d say this is a fantastic choice for a bride who wants something just a little bit different, in a knock-em-dead sort of way.

The listing is priced in dollars, but is shipped from Spain, so no import tax to pay. The dress is a US10 (UK14) but make sure you check this sizing with the seller. Best of all, the dress was originally listed at £1929 at Net-A-Porter but is available from this seller for £593 – although you could make a lower offer.

The auction has another 5 days to run.
